Joachim Bernhard Hagen
was considered the last great Baroque Lute composes/players followed S.L. Weiss
in his era. After his death, the lute music had seen its twilight and gradually
fell into obscurity.
Fortunately, Hagen left us with some excellent
compositions for lute. His style is more Classic than Baroque. His
works are contained in the so called Augsburg Manuscript.
His lute music is best represented by Robert
Barto's excellent CD of solo lute works by Hagen ( Naxos 8.554200 ).
His lute music is yet to be appreciated by the
guitar community yet. This page will gradually introduce Hagen's
compositions for 13-course Baroque Lute transcribed for Alto-guitar by
Leyenda.
* All
the transcriptions are my original and
independent works, with exception that many enthusiastic and supportive readers
provided suggestions, corrections, etc. My aim is to promote neglected music and
multi-string guitars, and I don't claim to be scholarly. Readers are
encouraged to refer to other sources in this field.
** Fingerings are only
suggestive. Readers are welcome to try and explore other options.

Locatelli Variations |

Hagen's transcription of a set of Locatelli's
violin work for lute. It is actually easier than it sounds. |
