If you ever want to venture into the domain of 10-string
guitar but wonder where to get one,
Darren Hippner is probably the
best answer.
My 10-string spruce-top Hippner has a
tremendous volume yet clear and sweet tone. The playability and the intonation
are all excellent. It has a raised fingerboard to provide easy access to the
high position and two side acoustic ports to produce some incredible deep
resonance. These two features are not conventional but I highly recommend them
as the enhancements for
the instrument.
The top is regular spruce and side/ back is Indian
rosewood; nothing too fancy. However the spruce top has a very pleasant
and subtle variation of colors. Hippner also created a simple yet very elegant
rosette pattern for this guitar. I have seen this type of rosette on acoustic
guitars but not very often on classical guitar, and I simply love it..
